Earthen ovens are beautiful to behold and bake the best bread
imaginable. Ideal for breads and pizzas, earth ovens use radiant,
conductive and convection heat simultaneously - producing crunchy,
caramelized crusts and moist interior. Built out of unfired clay,
they can be hand-sculpted into works of art, making a creative and
functional addition to any backyard or patio.
Thanks to all who came out for the Mixed Media Shower. Check out photos at hummingbirdai.com.

The Sustainable Living Roadshow is coming through Austin via The Hundred Acre Wood October 11th and 12th. Saturday will be followed by an after party of dancing and camping under the stars! See more info at sustainablelivingroadshow.org. More details coming soon.
Building with Earth
Personal habitats heavily affect our personal lives, workspaces, and society at large. We can improve our habitat with greater understanding of the environment around us. Natural building promotes this understanding by taking a hands-on approach to using local, natural materials to actively improve our habitat. Materials such as cob or straw bales are sustainable, local products that can be used to build aesthetically pleasing and highly functional structures, while the process of building those structures remains simple and fun!

The Green Apple Festival is a nation-wide volunteer event April 18th-19th with a focus on building community through positive action on local sustainability projects in honor of Earthday. These are the projects at The Hundred Acre Wood that we will be doing during the weekend. The projects are fun, educational, and take steps toward the sustainability of the Hundred Acre Wood as a whole. The projects are designed for all age groups and for easy rotation between tasks to keep interest and enjoyment at a maximum. An important part of each task is the educational opportunities provided to the volunteers, and these are explained for each task. Workshops are from 10am-5pm, and we'll all cut loose afterwords. Everyone is welcome to camp Saturday night. All volunteers will be able to gain credits with The Austin Time Exchange for the hours they chip in.
